Baba Marta (or Granny March)

Back at home there is this tradition of exchanging "martenitsa"'s with your friends and family on every 1st March. They are given as a symbol of good health. It's essential that you buy those for your close ones but never for yourself. The martentitsa itself has one very important feature - it should be always red and white. The most traditional and typical versions include a string of red and white yarn that one wears around the wrist or a brooch made of yarn again, shaped like a boy (Pizho) and a girl (Penda).  According to the traditions you are supposed to wear your martenitsa's until the first blossoming trees are present.
So happy 1st March!

You can't get lost if you don't know where you're going...
