What I Wore: Pub Shift

The hardest part about working in the pub is choosing what to wear. I know, I know, that sounds pretty bad for me, but it's true. It's just that I have to be dressed smart (what the heck "smart" means) but in the same time I have to wear very airy and light things, because it get SO hot in the pub.
Lightwear that looks good and not beachy it's really hard. At least for me is. I struggle to find the balance between looking good and not boiling. Or at least I used to. Yesterday I think I managed to find the middle ground - tailored shorts that look like classy enough to be allowed in the gastro pub environment. Of course, wearing shorts means only flats allowed. There are only very few possible ways anyone can wear shorts and heels to work and still look classy. I didn't feel like risking it last night, so I wore flats, as per se.

OK, let's get detailed here, shall we? The shorts are a fairly old pair of high-wasted New Yorker one. I think I snatched the last pair of them in the Christmas sales around 3 years ago. They have been a staple in wardrobe ever since, a versatile piece that I wear quite a lot. Especially for shorts.
The story with the shirt is very similar, but this time it was part of the Summer sales. I was determined to find a perfect striped shirt for a while, when I came across this one in the Pimkie shop in Strasbourg. Not to long, neither too short, the right fabric and perfect fit for me, again, one of my go-to items.
And last, but not least, my statement flats. My Mums fashion philosophy have always been "When in doubt wear black clothes and red shoes. You can't go wrong with red shoes." I follow her rule every time I don't know what to wear and I want to look good. Black and Red or Black and Leopard, because my signature shoes are actually my leopard flats. However, I'm not experimenting with mixing different prints for now, I'm too much of a coward for now. But just for now!

What I Wore: The Smart Dress-Up

If you remember I went to a job interview two days ago and I was to hear back from them if I'm invited to the next round. Well, they did call to invite me and the really really sweet girl that's been communicating with me gave me the advice to come to the second interview dressed smart but wearing comfortable shoes.
Comfortable but smart shoes. Sorry? Can you please repeat that one more time for me? Comfortable yet smart looking shoes? Sorry, I don't have such.
My comfortable shoes are bright and colourful Nike sneakers. They ain't smart. No, ma'am. But hell if they are not the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.
And my smart shoes are either nice and high or really flat. Neither of those is suitable for an adventure said to start at 11:45am and to end at 8:30pm. My smart shoes are great if I'm going to sit in a office the whole day, but you said I should bring jacket so I guess the office is off limits then. Oh, well, I guess I'll have to ask the dear Mr.Boyfriend for a food massage at the end of the day. If he's not too tired, of course.

Enough with the moaning. Let's talk about the clothes I chose to wear for this second interview of mine. I decided to leave my suit trousers on the hanger today and go with my nice ASOS black jeans. They are really nice and comfy, perfect for a whole day on the go. Plus they look really smart, you'd never guess they are pair of jeans if you don't see the back pockets. And they are so flattering on me. One of the best buys I have ever done.
Next we have the super magic top that looks like white shirt with black cardigan but in fact is just one whole piece. My Mum found it in a small shop back home few years ago, and knowing my taste like the back of her hand, she bought it without even showing it to me, so convinced that I'l love it. Luck for both of us, she was right. I do loved it then and I still love it now, one of my easiest to match pieces. And the fabric is just amazing - light and soft.
The shoes I finally chose to wear are present from my Mum, a vintage find from a small shop again. You may see a tendency here - my Mum goes to small shops almost exclusively and finds the cutest things ever. It's been always like that, this is our common gift, mine and hers. We are Seekers but it works only for commercial finds such as shoes, jeans, home appliances, etc.
The belt is my only black belt, because I can't simply find another that like nearly as much as I like this one. I bought it on a shopping trip a few years back from Pull & Bear. The moment I entered the shop my eyes stopped on it and I knew that I'm going home with it.
The sunglasses and the necklace, aka medallion, are both vintage, from my grandparents. You already know about the sunnies from few posts back, when I showed you the content of my huge everyday bag. The medallion is my Grannies and it's a present form her Dad. A few years ago I was going to some event and I couldn't find a necklace that matches my outfit so she lent it to me and I haven't returned it to her ever since. Oops. Lucky for me there are no other girls in this part of the family so I haven't been hiding it from anyone. Or like I would've cared if I was ...

And this is it. Wish me luck and I hope this outfit brings me a job offer!

A La Parisienne - Part 2

This is the second time this week that I wake up in the morning with clear idea in my head about what I want to wear. This happens really, really, really rarely nowadays and I just let it lead me.
Few years ago, while I was still in high-school I'll have outfits planned for at least few days ahead and will be knowing every little detail about what when I'm wearing, how my hair is suppose to look and so on. It made my life very easy in a way because most mornings dressing up will be an automatized procedure. On the other hand, it was hard to come up with new ideas everyday and always to try and look put together. Now I value being able to move comfortably, everything needs to be cycling-appropriate and I really try to find the most functional clothes. My high-school wardrop wouldn't meet this criteria even in hundred years. I'm not  even sure if I could pull-off those high high-heels I used to wear everyday. It's safe to say that people change.
This particular outfit combines together all of the things that make me feel feminine and chic. It's incredibly comfortable, those flats are life-saves. And the skirt - ah, the skirt. It's a fine knit skirt which makes it perfect for the early spring or for the autumn. It combines a bit more colours at the same time than what I would usually anticipate but I just feel like all those clothes complement each other perfectly.

By the way - the travel mugs are life-savers for those early in the morning seminars! I can't imagine surviving through the whole class without my favourite mug of tea!

A La Parisienne

Yes, that's right. This is a fashion post! I don't know about you guys but for me this is very exciting!
This morning, while I was dressing up for university, I was thinking about our amazing trip to Paris last winter and how chic and effortless all the women were. This is how the outfit above was born. Now, truth to be told, my initial plan was to upload photos of my original outfit - me wearing my clothes. Well, things didn't go according to plan, what a surprise. While the light was excellent - I lacked a photographer. When I finally was  reunited with my favourite photographer, aka Mr. Boyfriend, we couldn't find appropriate spot for my mini-shoot to take place. And when we finally agreed in place - all the natural light was gone. So, Polyvore is here to save the day!
When in doubt - dress in black. And because yesterday I was pulling off a grunge-like all black outfit, I decided to spice things up with my favourite red flats. Their colour is so vibrant and cheerful that even Grumpy will smile when he see's them. And yes, you just can't go wrong with a trench coat, big black bag, black sunglasses and black jeans. You can't!
